Your Eyes Hurt

Standard

Your eyes hurt
Me deep
Right to the back of me
Your sighting burns
My face
You shame the place
Wherein I tuck myself
You peer into the dark
Seclusion where I
Crawl in fear
A ball so tight
I do not roll
But hold myself
In still you see
Right through
Into the back the
Very lack of love
The hole and matter
Of the gap
Without the strength
Of density to bear
The test of life
With care enough
To bounce right back
You see the truth
Of weak the knees
That tremble on
Themselves beneath
Their sheath of shame
From skin they tremble in
They quake
When your eyes
Frame me deep into the back
Of me you see
The same face
You refrain from owning
When you swear
That your reflection
Is not there at all?

Circus Games

Standard

Step back
You cross the line
Where I begin
You try
To master
Ceremony me
Within my space
My circular
In place
You dare
To step into
My circus
Head of tricks
Amusing just to keep
The audience in seats
And out of my arena
Where I learn
To play
You dare
To stray
Inside
I find
The roaring of my lions
Roam untamed
Inside
The line
That I have drawn
With sand in time
And safety ticks away
You think to stay
To master easy
Cats with paws
So soft not claws
Your crack of whip
From hip so masterful
You flick
Your wrist in rule
You fool
You crossed the line

Personal Space

Standard

Thief
You threat to steal my breath
By standing close
Too close for thought
To form too near for
Feelings to appear to
Close me in and tight
My light is dimming
I can not espy
A way to run
Away I stay to fight
You off to keep
My piece of me intact
Enough to breathe
The air you threat
To steal away
By standing close
Too close for words
To say or me to be
I can not stay
I disappear from view
Into the atmosphere
Disowner of myself
I’m gone and left away
In flying out
So disengaged
My vacant body
Never ever here
To walk the earth
And feel the ground
Beneath my feet

When

Standard

When the hills
Are washed to sea
The clouds fell down
To wet the earth the sun
Is tumbled from the sky
I will awake
To walk with moonlight
Free
Myself to be
Unclothed from shame
Arranged in ways
That will not hold
The misery of seeing
In reflections glassy streams
The dreams and phantoms
That we weave around before
We breathe our last in gasping
Hopes of true election
Of the best in us is realised
None too late

In the Mouth of the Gift Horse

Standard

In the mouth of the gift horse
I looked at life
And found it wanting
Trust enough to dare
With caring
Carry the load
Of space so heavy
On shoulders so wide
They bear and hold
The reins that threat to break
Apart on waking up to see
The storm that has been sown
And try to find
Despite the raging
Changes of the winds
A little digging in
Contentment with a tiny spade
Build borders
For the sane to hunker down
And wait to fate it out
Or bust

Retentive Tensions

Standard

Retentive Tensions
Cast On lines
Of knitted fates
The knots inside
The loop-me-loops
Of lost and find
In twist and spin
I slip and slide
Along and through
The downward slew
Of motion pinning
Patterns of my power
Draining out
Resources low
The going slow and
Flowing not so long and
Gone the strong
So far away
I pay my price
Again and have to take
The wages I accrue
In lieu of love

Better Than a Midnight Owl

Standard

Better than a midnight Owl
With open eyes of wide and
Watching with the moon
About in turn to back
Of head and finding
Memories refrain
To sing again
The woeful song
Sung long ago still
Humming in the air
Behind me always
Are the lonesome notes
That formed from lips
In young and trembling hopes
Remiss in opening
To fracture
When the kiss
First burst like sun
Right through
The veil of night
