Beyond the Veil

Standard

See through
Your veil
If you avow
To seek beyond
What you can see
To feel what you
Have never felt
Before those dreams
You never had
To find what you
Do love so much
It hurts to be alive
This ecstasy of diving
Into ocean streams
Of living widely open
Means to go beyond
Where you have been
To blow like leaves
Upon the winds
Of happenstance
Your chance
The future
In your hands
Your heart
Will always start
Again to care
To see beyond
The veil you wear

Tenderness

Standard

The warmth of human kindness
Thaws the ice inside the heart
And how it hurts
To come alive
To feel such beauty
Pulsing willingly
In green keen earth
To grow and throw
A shower of motley bounty
Rich for free
When needed we
Forget this privilege
So easily go falling
Always far
From Eden’s grace
This race of man
Should not show kindness
For it kindly hurts
To know also
The cruelty
What we do and be and show

Bereaved

Standard

I slide so easily along
This well-worn path
From old I know so well
The curves and bends
It wends me through
The ways it spins and sends
Me reeling into spaces
I can’t recognise from sight
That’s blinded in these troughs
So dark I know from touch
These places mark the plights
I fought to flee to keep a hold
Of me the pieces
That I fell into
When I lost you
My self
I seek again…
